Who are We?

Welcome to Cypress Sleeper Barrels, a unique camping experience created by the Carr sisters, Lisa and Tara. Located on the beachfront sandy shores of Nipigon Bay in Gurney, ON, just 1 hour and 45 minutes east of Thunder Bay, Cypress Sleeper Barrels offers an extraordinary getaway that combines comfort, nature, and relaxation.

In 2022, Lisa and Tara, along with their family and friends, designed and built Cypress Sleeper Barrels.

These distinctive barrels provide an immersive camping experience, allowing you to wake up to stunning water views through the bubble window.

Accommodations at Cypress Sleeper Barrels include two barrels—Forest and Wilen—each designed for a unique experience.

Begin your day by preparing breakfast in the fully equipped outdoor BBQ kitchen and savouring it in the covered, netted outdoor gazebo living room with a propane fire pit for any weather.

All of us have been there when packing for a camping trip.  No matter how long your trip is, you need to pack the same supplies.

All that can be handled by us! The only things you need to bring are yourself, your personal belongings, food, beverages, and maybe a loved one.

Live in the moment, relax, and connect with yourself.  Take a trip to a special place and immerse yourself in all its elements.  Get out and explore the great outdoors, breath in the fresh air, sit around a roaring fire, and take a dip in the lake. Barrels

  • Drift Barrel

    Even though all barrels are equally located on the beach front, this area is called the Drift Barrel.

    Forest Barrel

    It is named the Forest Barrel because the area is more closed into the forest.  Providing lots of shade for a cooler stay.

  • Wilen Barrel

    This area is referred to as the Wilen Barrel because of the mural painted on the canvas cover from Thunder Bay artist Vik Wilen. This area is more open, providing lots of sunshine for a warmer stay.

Came here for our one year anniversary, even in the rain it was a great relaxing spot. Well set-up, easy and convenient, nice vibe overall. We enjoyed our weekend, visits from Louie and we'll be back next summer!

Fantastic time, perfect location on the sandy shores of beautiful Lake Superior. We lucked out with amazing weather, lots of kayaking, beach time, sauna, fire, big orange moon, tons of stars and even some northern lights. The sleeper barrel is awesome, the outdoor lounge and kitchen so comfortable and well stocked. Little piece of paradise right there! 😊

From the moment we got there we were blown away. Well worth the price for a nights stay. Everything from towel to utensils was included. It was comfortable. It was perfect for a nice romantic evening for two people to just enjoy the beautiful sight of Lake Superior.

There are no words to describe how much I needed Tara’s property this weekend. Tara and Lisa were lovely hosts pre-stay and for the duration of our time there. Louie also ensured our check in went smoothly. The space was very clean, even the outside amenities including the portable washroom. There was no detail missed and everything (including the fan) was of good quality. My partner and I were celebrating a birthday and an anniversary and this was a perfect place to disconnect from life and connect to each other. The board games and beach allowed for endless opportunities of play. With gratitude!

Everything about this place is spectacular. The location, the beauty of the site, the barrel, the place to relax with the view on the lake. I felt in love with the place. The sauna with the view on the lake was like a dream... We heard also a loon on the morning, it was a full moon and we had no clouds ... Wow , this was so beautiful, I wont forget this night we spent there.
