This site is named after the stunning mural adorning the canvas cover, painted by Thunder Bay artist Vik Wilen.
The area surrounding the Wilen Barrel is open and sunny, offering warmth and a bright atmosphere while still being steps from the beach on Nipigon Bay in Gurney, ON. Each of our barrels is privately spaced, ensuring a peaceful and immersive retreat.
This 7’ x 16’ cedar barrel is ideal for 2 adults but can accommodate up to 4 guests.
The clever second sleeping area beneath the main bed easily converts from storage to a cozy sleeping space, making it perfect for children or adults with a smaller build.

A hassle-free getaway: We’ve taken the work out of camping so you can focus on relaxation. Everything you need is provided—just bring your personal belongings, food, beverages, and loved ones.
Start your day with waterfront views: Begin your morning by gazing out the bubble window at the sparkling waters of Lake Superior.
Prepare breakfast in your private, fully equipped outdoor BBQ kitchen, and enjoy your meal in the covered gazebo living room. Rain or shine, the netted and cozy space with a propane fire pit offers comfort in any weather.
Private beachfront sauna: Your site includes a private sauna barrel on the beach, complete with enough firewood for a one-hour session per day. Want to extend your sauna experience? Additional firewood is available for purchase.
Your site also features a private fire pit, a changing station, and a porta potty bathroom. While the sauna does not have a shower, a heated water basin and rinsing buckets are available for freshening up. For a quick, refreshing rinse, a dip in the lake is a perfect option!
For added convenience, we provide towels, toiletries, and eco-friendly soaps. Limited Wi-Fi is available at your site, with a shared picnic area offering stronger connectivity.
Immerse yourself in nature: Take a hike in the surrounding wilderness, breathe in the fresh lakeside air, relax by an open fire, or dive into the clear waters of Nipigon Bay. The Wilen Barrel combines art, comfort, and nature to create a unique and restorative camping experience.
